As with any ailment or disorder, early detection is the key to effective treatment and reversal of the condition. With hair loss as well, it is important to know about and identify these early signs of balding that will help you get help before it is too late. Here are some early signs and symptoms of hair loss that you should look out for:
1. More than normal rate of hair shedding
We have all heard that losing 100 hairs a day is normal but that is only if hair is also growing at the same rate. If hair is not growing at the required rate or if it is falling at a rate faster than it can be replenished by the rate of growth, thinning hair or balding is the result. Is if you see clumps or hair in the drain after shampooing or on your brush as you comb or style your hair, this could be one of the 5 early signs of balding.
2. Wider parting
Wider partings, a more clearly visible scalp, a higher forehead or a receding hairline, are all early signs of balding. They all indicate that the total area of hair growth is shrinking or that the density of the hair is reducing.
3. Scalp and skin conditions
Several hair conditions could be warning signs of a future hair loss and baldness. Dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis is a condition where the body produces too much sebum and there is a flaky (rather like adult cradle cap) buildup is one of the risk factors that could precede hair loss.
In addition there are several skin conditions such as acne that are also connected to hair loss because they both can have the same underlying causes. So such skin and hair conditions, while not a direct cause of baldness, could precede hair loss and therefore act as warning signs.
4. Hormonal imbalances
Hormonal imbalances have several symptoms; among them could be hair loss. Thyroid imbalances, or conditions such as anemia could cause hair loss. For women it could be conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome or menopause that cause hair loss.
5. Excessive body hair on men
This could be among the early signs of balding for men: thicker growth of hair on the limbs, chest and so on. According to some experts, if a man has full chest hair there is a 50% greater risk of baldness. That risk rises to 90% if a man has full body hair.
